Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival

Île Lamèque is best known for the late July Lamèque International Baroque Music Festival (506/344-3261, www.festivalbaroque.com ), as unlikely as that may seem out here among the peat bogs and fishing villages. It is the only festival in North America dedicated to the celebration of music from the baroque period (1600-1760) and has been attracting the world’s best early music performers since the early 1970s. The setting is superb—almost divine—within the acoustically perfect 1913 Church Sainte-Cecile.
